Koraput: Police have busted a gun smuggling racket and arrested three persons in the tribal-dominated district.
Jeypore Sadar police came to know about the racket after arresting Sankar Pradhan (23) of Phampuni following a complaint filed on Wednesday evening that he was terrorising the villagers with a gun. Acting on the complaint, a police team led by OIC A Mahakur went to the village and apprehended Sankar, Jeypore SDPO Arup Abhisekh Behera said on Thursday.
The police also seized a pistol and two live ammunition in possession of Sankar. During interrogation, he revealed that Md Ansar Alli (52) of Jeypore Paikasahi was procuring the fire arms and supplying through Rakesh Kumar Sukri (27) of Damaput. In fact, Sankar had procured the gun from Rakesh.
On the basis of Sankar’s inputs, police conducted raids and arrested Alli and Rakesh. They also seized two pistols and four live ammunition from them. Both Sankar and Rakesh are involved in several criminal cases earlier.
