Bhubaneswar: Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal on Thursday presented Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Award 2021 to veteran theatre artiste Binodini Devi for her lifetime achievement in the field of Odia theatre. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh besides a citation, a memento and a shawl.
Binodini Devi is known for her acting in plays like ‘Abujha Raja ku Palachunta Mantri’, ‘Mu Eka Tumara’, ‘Se Apanamananka Bhitare’ and ‘Agastya’.
The Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Yuva Pratibha Samman 2021 was presented to Arushi Mudgal for Odissi dance and Ramachandra Behera for Odissi music (Mardala). The award aims at encouraging solo artistes in classical medium.
The awards were given away on the concluding day of the annual Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Festival. The five-day event was organised by Srjan, the dance institution established by the legendary Odissi maestro.
