London: The British government said on Sunday that bird flu has been found at a turkey farm in northern England.
“Avian flu has been confirmed at a commercial turkey fattening farm near Northallerton, North Yorkshire,” Chief Veterinary Officer Christine Middlemiss said in a statement.
The disease is the H5N8 strain, reports Reuters.
The government official, however, assured that risk to public health was very low. Also, it does not pose a food safety risk.
All 10,500 birds at the farm will be culled to curb spread of the disease,
