Bengaluru: Arrested bitcoin hacker Srikrishna Ramesh has told police that he was involved in the hacking and theft of bitcoins from Bitfinex, the cyptocurrency exchange in Hong Kong, in 2015. Police said they have alerted other agencies to verify his claims.
Srikrishna (26) claimed that he was the first person to hack the Bitfinex exchange, police said, according to media reports.
The Bitfinex exchange was hacked twice — in 2015 and 2016.
According to Srikrishna’s statement, he made a “profit” of 2,000 bitcoins “from the hack and blew the amount on a luxurious lifestyle”.
Srikrishna was arrested this week on charges of consuming narcotics after creating ruckus at a five-star hotel. He was also arrested in 2020 in a drugs case relating to dark net.
