Bhubaneswar: Heavy rains accompanied with hailstorm lashed parts of Semiliguda in Odisha’s Koraput district on Thursday. Several areas of the hilly region were covered with white sheets of hailstones. The rain brought much-needed relief from the scorching heat.
The regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted ‘Kalabaisakhi’ or Nor’Wester from April 20 in south interior and coastal districts, including Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, due to approach of westerly upper air trough from central India to Coastal Odisha.
Meanwhile, on Thursday the IMD has issued yellow warning for thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph for 24 Odisha districts in the next 24 hours.
The warning has been issued for the districts of Angul, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Koraput, Rayagada and Kandhamal.
Thunderstorm with lightning is also very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Boudh, Kalahandi, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur.
The capital city of Bhubaneswar is likely to experience partly cloudy sky with possibility of moderate rain or thunderstorm. The maximum and minimum temperature is very likely to be around 37 and 26 degree Celsius respectively, the IMD stated.
The day temperature is likely to fall by 2-3 degree Celsius during the next two days and maximum temperature will gradual rise by 3 to 4 degrees in subsequent three days, the IMD added.
