Phulbani: Hailstorm along with heavy rain lashed G Udaygiri in Odisha’s Kandhamal district on Saturday.
The area witnessed a cloudy weather in the morning and received intermittent rain throughout the day. In the afternoon, dark clouds covered the area and gusty surface wind started blowing.
It was followed by hailstorm throwing normal life out of gear. The people scurried for cover as hailstorm accompanied by rain and lightning continued for almost one hour.
While the roads and crop fields were covered with ice pellets due to the hailstorm, the branches of big trees were broken by the strong wind. The fruit bearing trees including mango and lichi were also affected by the hailstorm.
The asbestos roof of any houses have also been damaged and power supply to houses snapped. The hailstorm hit the area in the effect of norwester activities, sources said.
