New Delhi: This is a hairy tale for sure, but not a hair-raising one.
The amazing patience and unwavering commitment of Uttarakhand’s Renu Dhariyal to her hair has been recognised after she grew her locks to a remarkable 271.50 cm (8 feet, 10 inches).
The Guinness World Records has acknowledged Renu for having the longest hair on a living person (female).
Officials of Guinness World Records measured and verified Renu’s record-breaking hair in Haldwani four months ago.
Renu took the title from Ukrainian record-holder Aliia Nasyrova (257.33 cm, 8 feet 5.3 inches).
Renu’s hair was slightly shorter than what was achieved by a man named Robert Wadlow, whose 272 cm long locks were the tallest ever recorded.
According to Guinness World Records, Renu grew her hair for more than a decade, not having cut her tresses since 2015.
Renu said the decision to grow her hair was influenced partly by Indian cultural traditions, where long hair has historically been associated with beauty and tradition.
From a young age, her hair grew long enough to trail across the floor behind her. With her decade-long effort, she is now surrounded by her exceptionally long locks as seen cascading over the edge of a bed in photographs shared by Guinness World Records.

Renu, whose hair was also described as thick and shiny, keeps it under control by tying it into a long, elaborate braid.
Looking after her locks requires considerable patience, with hours spent washing and detangling them. She prefers natural methods, making hair oils and shampoos at home rather than relying on commercial chemical products,
Renu, who is a content creator and YouTuber, shares her approach to hair care with followers online.
She told Guinness World Records that she hoped her achievement will help bring attention to India and her local community while encouraging people to remain consistent and connected to their natural beauty and culture.
