Bhawanipatna: A widow was found burnt to death in her house under mysterious circumstances in Odisha’s Kalahandi district on Sunday.
According to sources, the widow, identified as 45-year-old Padmavati Meher, was staying alone in her house at Chicheiguda village under Junagarh police limits in the district. Her only son stays in Hyderabad as he works there.
On being informed by the villagers who saw Padmavati burnt to death, a police team from Junagarh went to the village and sent the half-burnt body for post-mortem. They have registered a case of unnatural death and started investigation.
Though the police could not ascertain the cause of Padamvai’s death, her brother alleged that she was murdered by some unidentified person. “My sister was killed by somebody deliberately as the house was locked from outside,” he alleged.
The police said the cause of Padmavati’s death could be ascertained after getting post-mortem report. But they have started investigation into the case from all angles, the sources said.
