Balasore: The half-burnt body of a woman was recovered from the terrace of her in-laws’ house in mysterious conditions at a village in Odisha’s Balasore district on Saturday.
The incident reportedly took place at Jainagar village under Bhograi block of the district. The deceased has been identified as Mili Parida, daughter-in-law of Hemant Parida.
While the woman’s in-laws claimed that she committed suicide by setting herself on fire on the terrace of their house, the family members of the deceased alleged that she was murdered for dowry.
After being informed, a team of police personnel from Bhograi rushed to the spot and launched an investigation into the incident. The body has been sent for postmortem and several people in the village are being questioned.
Tension prevailed in the area as the exact reason behind the woman’s death under mysterious circumstances is yet to be ascertained.
Villagers said Mili had got married to Hemant’s son Bhagirathi seven years ago and the couple has a six-year-old son and a two-year-old daughter.
Investigation into the incident is in progress and further details are awaited.
