Handicraft Status For 9 Tribal Paintings Of Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Tribal paintings of Saora, Kolha, Lanjia Saora, Dongria Kondha, Gond, Juang, Oraon, Kutia Kondha and Santhal communities have been included in the approved list of handicrafts in Odisha.

Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts Minister Rita Sahu has approved a proposal of the Directorate of Handicrafts to provide handicraft status to these nine tribal paintings, sources said.

The list already includes 50 traditional crafts – appliqué work, leather work, artificial bonsai, silverware, filigree work, terracotta, pottery, golden grass & cane work, horn work, sarees and other fabrics and stone and woodworks. At present, there are 108 craft clusters in the state where 51 crafts are practised by nearly 1.51 lakh artisans.
