Cuttack: Singer Sourin Bhatt, who is facing harassment case by a woman from Odisha, applied for anticipatory bail in Orissa High Court on Monday.
According to sources, Sourin has filed the application for the bail citing that the allegations against him were unfounded and deliberate attempts to defame him.
Earlier, the singer’s family members had accused the woman of blackmailing him. Admitting that they were aware of their friendship, they alleged that the woman was at fault. But Sourin has remained untraceable since the woman filed the complaint at Mahila police station in Cuttack.
A four-member team of Commissionerate Police had gone to the house of Sourin in Kolkata on June 22 but had to return without questioning him since he was in New Delhi. His family members assured the team that Sourin would contact them after returning to Kolkata.
The earlier attempts by police to contact him had failed since his phone was found switched off. Police also visited the house he had rented at CDA in Cuttack and served a notice on the landlord.
It may be noted that the woman had filed the police case alleging that Sourin exploited her on false promise of giving her a break in singing. She also accused the singer of false promises of marriage, cheating, torture and exploitation. The vocalist also extorted Rs 10 lakh from her, she alleged.
