Hardcore criminal injured in police encounter in Ganjam

Ganjam: Hardcore criminal Gadadhar Swain was injured in an encounter with police at Balibagada village under Rambha police limits in Ganjam district late on Monday.

Acting on a tip-off regarding presence of Swain and one of his associates, raids were conducted at Balibagada village. Sensing trouble, the criminals opened fire on the cops who retaliated. Swain sustained bullet injuries in his right leg. His associate, however, managed to escape from the spot during the exchange of fire.

He was rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital at Berhampur in a critical condition.

According to police sources, Swain is the prime accused in Banapur contractor firing case that took place on August 10. Over 20 criminal cases, including murder and robbery, are pending against him at different police stations.
