Hardcore Maoist Surrenders Before Police In Odisha’s Kandhamal

Phulbani: A hardcore Maoist cadre, who was wanted in several criminal cases, has surrendered before police in Odisha’s Kandhamal district.

The Maoist, identified as Samaya Madkam alias Naresh alias Amit alias Rupesh alias Punit, belongs to Mangalguda village under Kistaram police limits in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh.

He was the committee member of Kandhamal-Kalahandi-Boudh-Nayagarh (KKBN) division’s eighth company of the Maoists, said Jai Narayan Pankaj, Southern Range IG of Police at a press conference on Tuesday.

Madkam was wanted by Odisha Police in connection with 17 criminal cases in Kandhamal, Boudh and Nuapada districts.

Madkam, who had joined the Maoists at the age of 10 years, said he decided to return to the mainstream of the society after being disillusioned with the activities of senior Maoist cadres. They not only deviated from the ideologies of the Maoists but also exploited the subordinate cadres, he added.
