Bhubaneswar: The death of Haridaspur panchayat extension officer (PEO), Smitarani Biswal, was due to asphyxiation, Minister of State for Home, Dibya Shankar Mishra informed the Odisha Assembly on Thursday.
“According to the post-mortem report, a rope mark found around the neck confirms that Smitarani died due to asphyxiation,” Mishra said during an adjournment motion brought by the opposition Congress.
The minister also said police have arrested one Rupesh Bhadra as circumstantial evidence proved his complicity in the case. Rupesh is now lodged in jail and further investigation is underway, he added.
