Karnal: A team of district women and child welfare department officials along with police on Wednesday rescued a 35-year-old Haryana woman from a small toilet. The woman was forced to live in the small toilet for the past one and a half years, as per the officials.
The victim, a mother of three was locked in a toilet by her husband, in Rishpur village of Panipat district, claimed the officials. They took her to civil hospital and now she has been handed over to her cousin.
After getting information about the victim, Rajni Gupta, the district women protection officer along with the police officials reached the house and found the woman locked inside the toilet.
“She was so weak that she could not even walk; she ate 8 chapatis when we gave her food. She was not even given proper food and drinking water in captivity,” Gupta told Hindustan Times.
Naresh Kumar, the husband of the victim claimed that his wife had mental health issues but he couldn’t prove the claims to welfare department officials.
Gupta said, “Even her husband could not produce the alleged document related to her treatment of mental illness.”
As per Surender Dahiya, in charge of Sanoli police station, the police have registered a case against Naresh Kumar under sections 498 A and 342 of the IPC. The police arrested him and an investigation is underway.
