New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a chargesheet in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a 19-year old Dalit woman by four men in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh in September. It has been filed on the basis of the victim’s last statement given on September 22. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recommended a CBI probe into the Hathras case, India Today reported.
It may be recalled that the woman died on September 29 at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital while undergoing treatment. The district administration had allegedly cremated her body in the middle of the night, denying the family permission to carry it home for proper last rites, inviting the ire of the Allahabad High Court.
Subsequently, the CBI took over the case.
