HC Allows Voting On No-Trust Motion Against Odisha Sarpanch Chameli Ojha With Condition


Kataka: In a significant order, the Orissa High Court has ordered that the no-confidence motion against Chameli Ojha, Sarpanch of Tikiri inMahakalapada block of Odisha’s Kendrapada district will continue.

The interim direction was issued by the High Court while hearing a petition filed by Chameli Ojha challenging the no-confidence motion moved against her. The HC directed that the voting process in the no-trust motion may proceed as scheduled.

However, the High Court has imposed a restriction on the declaration of the result. The court directed that the result of the no-confidence proceedings should not be declared without its permission.

Notably, Chameli Ojha had approached the High Court challenging the no-confidence motion moved against her. The court’s interim order allows the proceedings to continue while keeping the final outcome subject to further orders.

According to Chameli’s lawyer Sukanta Dalei, the HC has directed the state government and both parties that the election will proceed. However, the result of the election will not be announced without the court’s permission.

It may be noted that 21 of the 22 ward members have extended support to the no-confidence motion moved against Tikiri Sarpanch Chameli Ojha., strongly opposing her style of functioning.
