HC Bar Lawyers To Intensify Stir Despite Split

Cuttack: The vertical split in the Odisha High Court Bar Association with BJD Legal Front withdrawing from the month-long agitation against police assault on a lawyer in Cuttack on August 28 will have no impact on the ongoing stir, said member of the State Bar Council Chinmay Mohanty.
Talking to mediapersons here, he said the BJD Legal Front had started the agitation just to show its concern towards the lawyers and win their trust. “When it came to know that the lawyers are in no mood to withdraw their strike, it convened an urgent meeting at a hotel last night and announced its decision to withdraw from the agitation,” he added.

Alleging that the state government is trying to split the HC Bar Association, Mohanty said the State Bar Council meeting has urged it to concede their demands and immediately resolve the standoff.

“We had also hit the street with the lawyers’ body protesting against the incident. Since the case is sub judice now, we see no point in prolonging the agitation,” the BJD Legal Front adviser Asim Amitabh Das told the media.

He also informed that all the members of the BJD Legal Front will join their duty from Monday.

Meanwhile, the agitating lawyers of the High Court Bar Association burnt the effigy of the Chief Minister for the second time on Sunday. The irate lawyer also burnt the effigies of the State Bar Council chairman Tahali Charan Mohanty and the BJD Legal Front adviser.
On the other hand, camp court will be opened in all the jails across the state from Monday to grant conditional bail to the accused involved in the petty crime. The High Court has directed all District and Session Judges in this regard. Following the directive of the court, the jail authorities have made necessary arrangements.
