Cuttack: The Orissa High Court has directed the police to arrest a cargo ship at Odisha’s Pradip port in Jagatsinghpur district for non-payment of dues.
As per the case filed in the High Court by Cockett Marine Oil (Asia), the ship MV Marine Hornbill of Panama had been charged US dollar 2,67,220 (Rs 21 crore) towards loading the cargo. Though the cargo was loaded as per the requirement, the ship authorities did not pay the cost.
After hearing the petition, Justice V Narasingh of the High Court ordered for the arrest of MV Marine Hornbill. The complainant also informed the court that the cargo ship was scheduled to leave Paradip port on Thursday and sought its intervention for steps to arrest the ship.
The court also directed the police to submit details of the arrest warrant within 24 hours. It also issued notice to the opposite party.
While Dibyanand Mishra was the legal adviser of the petitioner, senior lawyers BN Mohanty and Ashutosh Mohanty presented the case in the High Court.
