Mumbai: A docu-series titled ‘The Indrani Mukerjea Story: Buried Truth’, which ran into legal trouble, may have reasons to feel optimistic.

The Bombay High Court on Thursday dismissed a petition of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) seeking to halt the release of the Netflix docu-series.

The docu-series, on the disappearance of Indrani’s daughter Sheena Bora, was scheduled to premiere on the OTT platform on February 23.

CBI filed a petition in high court seeking a stay on its release till the trial in the case was completed.

Netflix told Bombay High Court last week that it won’t release the web series till February 29.

CBI had earlier approached a special court in Mumbai seeking a stay on the documentary series. The central probe agency’s plea, however, was rejected on February 20.

CBI then moved Bombay High Court seeking to halt the release of the series.

On February 22, a division bench of Justices Revati Mohite Dere and Manjusha Deshpande directed the makers to arrange a special screening

of the series for the CBI.

Former media boss Indrani, accused of orchestrating her daughter’s murder in April 2012, was in custody for over six years before being granted bail in May 2022.

Indrani was alleged to have strangled Sheena in 2012 with the help of former husband Sanjeev Khanna and her driver Shyamvar Rai. According to investigators, Sheena’s body was kept overnight in the car before the corpse was allegedly moved to a forest outside Mumbai and set on fire.

Indrani’s then husband Peter Mukerjea apparently knew of the conspiracy. The murder came to light in 2015 after Rai spoke out after being arrested in another case.
