Balangir: Headless body of an unidentified man was recovered from a pond in Deogaon area of Odisha’s Balangir district on Thursday, leaving local residents shocked.

According to preliminary information, the body was found near Bagada village under the jurisdiction of Deogaon police station in the district. The body was found floating in a pond located near the village water tank.

After spotting the body, locals immediately informed the authorities concerned, following which a team from Deogaon police station rushed to the spot and launched an investigation into the incident.

It was suspected that the man may have been murdered and then his head severed. Police suspect that the body may have subsequently been dumped into the pond in an apparent attempt to conceal the crime.

As part of efforts to identify the deceased, police have launched a search for the severed head, which could help investigators establish the identity and the circumstances that led to his death.

The recovered body has been taken into police custody as part of the investigation, while further examination is expected to provide crucial clues. Police officials are also examining the surrounding area and gathering information from local residents to establish whether the deceased had any connection with the village.
