Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Thursday found a headless body of a woman on the outskirts of the city.
According to sources, some locals spotted the body on a roadside near Dasapur on Bharatpur-Chandaka Road in the early hours.
On being informed, Bhubaneswar DCP Umashankar Dash and a scientific team reached the spot for an on-the-spot investigation.
A blood-stained knife, an empty liquor bottle, some broken bangles and a hand glove were found near the body.
According to the preliminary investigation, the woman, before being murdered, had a scuffle with her assailant.
A search operation has been launched for the severed head of the woman, the sources added.
