Puri: Independence Day celebrations turned tragic for at Malleswari Project Primary School in Odisha’s Puri district as the headmaster collapsed soon after hoisting the National Flag on Tuesday.
After hoisting the Tricolour on the school premises in Krushnaprasad block of the district in the morning, headmaster Prafulla Chandra Sahu complained of giddiness and fell unconscious on the ground, sources said.
He was immediately rushed to the Krushnaprasad Community Health Center (CHC) by the school staff in a critical condition. However, he breathed his last at the health centre.
While the cause of death is yet to be ascertained, a pall of gloom descended on the area as the news of the headmaster’s death spread.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident. Further details are awaited.
