Health Minister To Discuss Low Vaccination Rates In These States

New Delhi: The Central government is worried about low COVID-19 vaccination rates in three states and one union territory.

To address the issue and find a way forward, Union Health & Family Welfare minister Mansukh Mandaviya will on Monday hold a meeting to discuss disappointing first-dose coverage in Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Puducherry.

About 57% of the eligible population in Meghalaya have received the first dose of the COVID vaccine. In Manipur the figure is 54.2%, in Nagaland 49% and in Puducherry 65.7%.

“The minister will hold a meeting to review the progress and planning of COVID-19 vaccination in Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Puducherry on Monday where the first dose coverage is less than 70%. The aim is to encourage vaccination there,” PTI quoted a government oggicial as sayng.

According to latest data, 43% of India’s eligible population are fully vaccinated, while 82% have received the first dose of the vaccine. More than 12 crore people are overdue for their second dose of the jab.

A total of 116.5 crore doses have been administered in the country so far.
