Health Ministry Issues Revised Discharge Rules For COVID-19 Patients

New Delhi: The Union Health Ministry on Saturday issued revised guidelines for discharge of coronavirus patients from hospitals.

As per the new policy, if patients classified as very mild and pre-symptomatic cases do not show any fever for three days, they will be discharged from the hospital 10 days after the symptoms appeared.

Similarly, for cases clinically classified as ‘moderate’, the patients will undergo monitoring of body temperature and oxygen saturation. The patient will be discharged only if no fever is reported for three days, there is no oxygen requirement and breathing issues are resolved.

There will be no need for Covid-19 testing before the discharge in these cases.

However, for ‘severe’ cases of infection, clinical recovery is a must for the patients. They will get the discharge only after getting tested negative and the symptoms are resolved.

All the patients are advised to undergo a seven-day isolation period after getting discharged from the hospital. After discharge from the facility, if the patient again develops symptoms of fever, cough or breathing difficulty he can reach out to COVID Care Centre or call at 1075 or state helpline number for COVID-19, the guidelines read.
