Bhubaneswar: Most parts of Odisha came under intense heatwave on Tuesday with the industrial town of Talcher recording the highest temperature at 42.6 degree Celsius.
Apart from Talcher, 11 places where mercury shot up to 40 degree Celsius and above are Bhubaneswar (40.6), Chandbali (40.8), Angul (42.1), Jharsuguda (40.8), Sambalpur (41.4), Hirakud (40.3), Bhawanipatna (41), Bolangir (41.8), Titilagarh (42.5) and Malkangiri (40.4) and Dhenkanal (40.8).
Besides, temperature hovered around 35 degree Celsius and above at seven places in Balasore (37.4), Cuttack (39.2), Baripada (38), Keonjhar (38), Sundargarh (36), Phulbani (38.6) and Sonepur (38.4).
Compared to the weather condition on Monday, temperature in Odisha capital was manageable on Tuesday as the wind speed was relatively faster. However, strong wind accompanied by a drizzle in the late evening came as a relief for the city denizens, struggling with hot and humid weather.
“The steady rise in temperature in the state is due to the blowing of the hot wind from north-west direction towards the central part of Odisha which is pushed to the coastal belt. Since the wind speed flowing from the sea towards the coast is very slow, the temperature has gone up in this region,” said a Met release this evening.
It further said despite the possibility of rain and thundershower at one or two places in the coastal, South and Central Odisha for the next three days, there will be steady rise in temperature from April 21.
