Heat Wave Intensifies In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: With the day temperature rising sharply in most parts of Odisha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday issued severe heat wave warning for nine western districts.

In an evening release, the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, said that the heat wave will intensify further in the nine districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Bargarh, Sonepur, Balangir and Nuapada and continue for four days till May 29.

“The maximum day temperature will go up by 3-4 degrees in the districts of interior Odisha and 2-3 degrees over coastal Odisha during the next two-three days,” the release added.

As a safety measure, the IMD has advised people to take precautionary measures and not to expose themselves to the extreme heat.

While the Western Odisha town of Titlagarh was the hottest place in the state at 46.5 degree Celsius, the temperature soared to 40 degree Celsius in 12 places in Angul (44.1), Jharsuguda (45.2), Sambalpur (45.2), Sundargarh (43), Hirakud (44.5), Talcher (45.7), Bhawanipatna (44.3), Balangir (46.3), Malkangiri (43), Sonepur (44.8), Chandbali (40.2) and Cuttack (40.5).

Besides, the temperature remained close to 40 degree Celsius in Balasore (38), Bhubaneswar (39.5), Keonjhar (39.7) and Daringbadi (38).
