Bhubaneswar: Normal life was disrupted in most parts of Odisha on Friday with sharp rise in temperature in central and southern parts of the state.
While Titlagarh and Angul were hottest place recording 40.5 degree Celsius each, mercury hovered round 40 degree Celsius and above in five other places in Hirakud (40.1), Talcher (40), Malkangiri (40.4), Sonepur (40.2) and Bolangir (40.3).
Besides, places where the temperature touched 35 degree Celsius and above are Chandbali (36.8), Cuttack (37.4), Bhubaneswar (39), Baripada (37.4), Jharsuguda (39.7), Keonjhar (36.3), Sambalpur (39), Sundargarh (37), Bhawanipatna (38.8), Koraput (35), Phulbani (37.4) and Dhenkanal (39.4).
People living in the coastal areas of Paradip (31.1), Gopalpur (31.6), Puri (32.4), had a torrid time as the temperature at 30 degree Celsius and above with intense humid conditions made their lives miserable.
The capital city also witnessed intense humid conditions as the busy thoroughfares were deserted during noon till late afternoon.
As per the forecast by the Indian Meteorogical Department (IMD), the heat wave condition would intensify further in the next five days with temperature crossing over 40 degree Celsius at most places in the western, central and southern parts of the state.
