Bhubaneswar: While interior Odisha is in the grip of intense heat wave, the Met office has said that there will be a sharp rise in the day temperature in the coastal region in the next 48 hours.
An evening release by the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, on Wednesday said that the day temperature is most likely to cross 42 degree Celsius in the coastal region by May 25. Places like Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Balasore, Chandbali and Baripada are also likely to bear the brunt of the gruelling heat wave. The Met office has also said that the temperature will have a steep rise of 7 degree Celsius in two days. Though there is a possibility of nor’wester (Kalabaisakhi) in some parts of the state, there will be no change in the weather condition as the heat wave will continue till May 27, the release said.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heat wave warning for eight western Odisha districts of Balangir, Nuapada, Sonepur, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Deogarh and Sundargarh in the next 24 hours till May 27 and advised the people to take precautionary measures against heat stroke.
The release has said that the temperature in western Odisha will soar above 46 degree Celsius after May 24 and even touch 47-48 degrees by May 25.
The temperature recorded on Wednesday was highest in the industrial town of Talcher with 44.3 degree Celsius. Besides, it soared to 40 degrees at 12 places – Jharsuguda (43.6), Sambalpur (43.9), Sundargarh (41), Hirakud (42.3), Bhawanipatna (41.5), Balangir (44), Phulbani (41.2), Titlagarh (43.6), Malkangiri (41), Sonepur (43.2), Angul (41.9) and Chandbali (41.1).
The twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar recorded 37.6 and 37.7 degree Celsius respectively with the relative humidity at 80 per cent.
