Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday sounded a three-day heat wave warning for 10 districts of Odisha in the next 48 hours.
According to an evening bulletin by the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, heat wave warning has been issued for Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Baragarh, Sonepur, Balangir, Nabarangpur and Kalahandi districts.
The people of these districts have been advised to take necessary precautions against the intense heat and keep elderly, children and patients indoors during the peak afternoon hours.
The day temperature rose sharply in 11 places of the state with Hirakud emerging as the hottest place at 44.8 degree Celsius. The remaining 10 places where the mercury soared to 40 degrees and above are Jharsuguda (43.2), Angul (41.1), Sambalpur (44.6), Sundargarh (40), Talcher (40.5), Bhawanipatna (40.2), Balangir (42.5), Phulbani (40.4), Titilagarh (43.6) and Sonepur (41.8).
Though the temperature remained under 40 degrees in the coastal belts including the twin cities of Cuttack (37.4) and Bhubaneswar (37.8), intense humidity made the lives of the people miserable.
