Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued a two-day yellow warning of an intense heat wave for five districts.
The national weather agency in a mid-day bulletin said that the hot westerly wind is blocking the wind from the sea towards the state’s coast due to the weakening of the trough from Jharkhand to southeast Madhya Pradesh. This has resulted in a sharp rise in the day temperature at most places of the state.
“While the day temperature in the western Odisha districts will continue to rise further, there will be intense heat wave at one or two places in four coastal districts of Khurda, Cuttack, Dhenkanal and Balasore as well as Mayurbhanj district in north Odisha on Monday and Cuttack, Khurda and Dhenkanal districts on Tuesday,” it added.
In view of the heat wave, IMD has advised the people of these districts to take precautionary measures while going outside during noon (between 11 am and 3 pm) and keep the infants, elderly and sick people indoors.
It, however, said that there will be a slight fall in the day temperature by 2 degrees Celsius from April 28 as a cyclonic circulation over coastal Andhra Pradesh and neighbourhood will trigger thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places over the coastal districts.
