Bhubaneswar: As many as 9 places in Odisha recorded 40 degree Celsius or more as the state remained under the grip of heatwave for second day on Tuesday.
According to evening bulletin of the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, Baripada in Mayurbhanj district was the hottest place in the state by recording maximum temperature of 41.6 degree Celsius on the day.
Baripada was followed by western Odisha town Jharsuguda with a temperature of 41.2 degree Celsius. The other places that reeled under the heat are Sambalpur with 40.8 degree Celsius, Bhubaneswar 40.7, Angul 40.1, Titlagarh & Boudh 40.5 and Sundargarh 40 and Cuttack 40 degree Celsius.
At 2.30 pm, Jharsuguda recorded highest 40.8 degree Celsius, followed by Sambalpur with 40.6 and Bhubaneswar 40.4 degree Celsius.
The day temperature in the state crossed 40 degree Celsius for the first time this year on Monday. Jharsuguda sizzled at the day’s highest of 40.4 degree Celsius followed by Baripada at 40 degree. The mercury touched 39 degree Celsius and more at 12 places in the state.
The IMD has forecast a significantly higher number of heatwave days in Odisha and issued yellow warning for 3 days from April 13.
