Bhubaneswar: While the northern limit of monsoon continues to pass through Koraput and Phulbani, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday warned of heatwave conditions in western Odisha for two days.
Yellow warning has been issued for isolated pockets in the districts of Jharsuguda and Sambalpur on June 17-18. There is also an orange warning of heatwave and warm night for Balangir on June 18. Hot and humid conditions may also to prevail at isolated places in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri till June 21.
The day temperature is likely to fall by 2-3 degrees as the heatwave condition subsides after two days.
The MeT further stated that conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into some more parts of Odisha during the next 4-5 days. Along with the likely progress of the rain-bearing weather system, intense thunderstorm activity may continue in several parts of the state for 5 days.
On June 17, thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (50-60 kmph) may occur at one or two places in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Rayagada and Gajapati. Similar weather condition with wind speed of 40-50 kmph may also prevail in Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkan
al, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh districts.
On June 18, thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (50-60 kmph) may occur at one or two places in the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati and Ganjam. Similar weather condition with wind speed of 40-50 kmph may also prevail in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh.
Heavy rainfall is also in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in Rayagada, Koraput and Gajapati.
On June 19, thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (40-50 kmph) may occur at one or two places in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh. Similar weather condition with wind speed of 30-40 kmph may also prevail in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Sonepur, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur.
Heavy rainfall may continue in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in Koraput, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, and Balasore districts.
On June 20-21, thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (40-50 kmph) may occur at one or two places in the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri. Similar weather conditions with wind speed of 30-40 kmph may also prevail in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh.
Squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph occasionally gusting to 60 kmph may also prevail along & off the Odisha coast from June 18-21. Fishermen have been advised against venturing into the sea during this period.
