Heatwave Back In Odisha, Mercury Soars To 31°C In Bhubaneswar By 8.30AM Today

Bhubaneswar: Amid higher number of heatwave days prediction for Odisha, the mercury soared to 31 degree Celsius in Bhubaneswar by 8.30 am on Monday.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a spike in temperature in several parts of the county in the next five days. “A significantly higher number of heatwave days are predicted over parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Punjab and Haryana,” said IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mahapatra.

At least 30 places in Odisha had recorded 35 degree Celsius or more on Sunday with the highest maximum temperature of 39.5 degree Celsius at Baripada followed by Jharsuguda at 39 degree Celsius.

According to weather experts, the normal temperature at many places in the state will touch 40 degrees Celsius by April 12. “There has been a decline in thunderstorm activity and this will lead to an increase in day temperature by 2 to 3 degrees at some places during the next two to three days,” Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre Scientist Umasankar Das told the media.

Notably, the government has announced morning classes for all students of Class I to XII in the new academic calendar from April 11 onwards. The timing of morning classes will be 7 am to 11.30 am.
