Bhubaneswar: As many as 8 urban centres of the state reported temperature of 39 degree Celsius with mercury touching 40 degree in three places on Wednesday.
As forecast by India Meteorological Department (IMD) almost entire state came under the grip of the heatwave condition with western Odisha taking the brunt on the day. Balangir town recorded highest maximum temperature of 40.5 degree Celsius, followed by Titlagarh with 40.2 and Angul 40 degree Celsius.
Jharsuguda reported 39.6 degree Celsius, while Baripada registered 39.4 and Sambalpur, Sonepur and Boudh experienced the heat with 39 degree Celsius each, according to the evening bulletin of IMD.
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 38 and 37.6 degree Celsius respectively.
The national weather forecaster has issued yellow waring for Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Angul, Bolangir, Nayagarh, Khurda, Mayurbhanj, Balasore districts where heatwave condition is very likely to prevail in next 24 hours.
The heat wave condition is also very likely to prevail at one or two places in Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Boudh, Angul, Bolangir, Nayagarh, Mayurbhanj, Balasore from the morning of March 17 to 18.
