Bhubaneswar: Heatwave condition spread to more areas in the state on Thursday as 12 urban centres reported temperature of 39 degree Celsius or more compared to 9 places on Wednesday.
According to evening bulletin of the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD), 4 places registered temperature of 40 degree Celsius or more. Titlagarh was the hottest place in the state with 41.4 degree Celsius, followed by Balangir with 41.3 and Sambalpur and Boudh with 40 degree Celsius.
As many as 8 places recorded temperature of 39 degree Celsius or more. Jharsuguda registered 39. 8 degree Celsius followed by Bhawanipatna with 39.6, Baripada 39.5, Sonepur 39.2, Angul 39.1 and Sundargarh, Talcher and Nayagarh 39 degree Celsius each.
The Twin Cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack were relatively cooler with 35.6 and 35 degree Celsius respectively. Seaside town of Gopalpur recorded lowest temperature of 30.7 degree Celsius. On Tuesday, 6 urban centres in the state had reported 39 degree or more temperature.
The IMD forecast that no major change in maximum temperature (day temperature) is likely in the state during next 4-5 days. It will be above normal by 2 to 3 degree Celsius at many places in interior Odisha during the period.
It also stated in the bulletin that light to moderate rain is very likely at one or two places in Coastal Odisha, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Sundargarh.
