Heatwave Continues In Odisha As 14 Places Record 40 Degree Celsius Or More

Bhubaneswar: Despite thunderstorm bringing relief from heatwave in some parts of Odisha, as many as 14 places recorded maximum temperature of 40 degree Celsius or more on Thursday.

According to evening bulletin of the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, Talcher was the hottest place in the state recording maximum (day) temperature of 42.8 degree Celsius.

Talcher was followed by Sambalpur with 42.7 degree Celsius, Nuapada 42.4, Jharsuguda and Sundargarh 42.2, Boudh 41.6, Sonepur and Rourkela 41.4, Angul and Bargarh 41.2 and Hirakud and Balangir 41.1 degree Celsius.

The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack got a respite on the day recording temperature of 40.2 and 38.4 degree Celsius respectively.

The IMD has forecast that maximum temperature is likely to remain same at many places of Odisha during next 5 days. It is likely to be 42 degree Celsius or more at one or two places during next 24 hours in Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Boudh, Sonepur, Jharsuguda and Bargarh.

The Met office has issued a yellow warning and sait Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is very likely at one or two places in the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh and Khurda by 8.30 am on Friday.

Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places in the districts of Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Balangir and Nuapada during the period, it added.
