Bhubaneswar Heatwave condition prevailed in Odisha as almost half of its districts sizzled with temperature reaching 40 degree Celsius in 14 places on Sunday.
According to evening bulletin of regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, 7 places recorded maximum temperature of 42 degree Celsius or more on the day with western Odisha accounting for 6 places.
Sonepur was the hottest place in the state, registering the maximum temperature of 43 degree Celsius. It was followed by Sambalpur with 42.6, Sundargarh 42.5, Boudh 42.5, Jharsuguda 42.2, Bargarh 42 and Malkangiri 42 degree Celsius.
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack registered a temperature of 37.6 and 38.6 degree Celsius on the day. But high humidity level made life miserable in the two cities. While relative humidity in Bhubaneswar at 8.30 am was 90%, it was 74% in Cuttack.
The IMD has issued yellow warning for several districts for next 5 days with forecast of thunderstorm with lightning. It has said light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at a few places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada,
Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada and at one or two places in the rest districts in next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the Met office said conditions would continue to become favorable for further advance of monsoon into some parts of Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar during next 3 days.
