Heatwave In Odisha: 23 Places Record 40 Degree Celsius Or More; Sambalpur & Sonepur Hottest

Bhubaneswar: Even as some parts of Odisha experienced relief from heatwave due to thunderstorm activities in the evening of Thursday, as many as 23 places reeled under the temperature of 40 degree Celsius or more in the day time.

According to evening bulletin of the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, 9 places, mostly belonging to western Odisha, recorded day temperature of 43 degree Celsius or more.

Sambalpur and Sonepur continued to head the table of hot places with mercury reaching 44.6 degree Celsius. The two cities were followed by Hirakud with 43.9 degree Celsius, Baripada, Bargarh and Sundargarh 43.5, Rourkela 43.1 and Talcher 43 degree.

The IMD has forecast no major change in maximum temperature (day temperature) at many places in the state during next 4-5 days. Maximum temperature is very likely to be above normal by 3-5 degree Celsius at a few
places. Consequently, hot and discomfort weather is likely during next 3-4 days.

The Met office has also issued a yellow warning and said thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur
at one or two places in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kandhamal, Rayagada and Koraput by 8.30 am on Friday.

At the same time, heatwave condition is likely to prevail at one or two places in the district of Jharsuguda,
Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj during the period.
