Bhubaneswar: Energy Minister Pratap Keshari Deb’s assurance on Wednesday that there would be no power cuts has come as relief for denizens reeling under hot and sweltering weather conditions with heatwave sweeping Odisha.
“Contrary to speculation in media, the government is not contemplating load shedding. We have sufficient power meet the demand,” he said.
Technical issues might cause temporary discontinuation of power supply in an area but those cannot be termed as power cuts, he added.
However, Bhubaneswar, where mercury soared to 39.4 degree Celsius by 2.30 pm, has been witnessing continuous power outage lasting for some minutes since this morning.
Electricity Consumers’ Association has also asserted the opposite, stating that the state is witnessing power cuts which the minister is trying to pass off as maintenance work. It also questioned why the maintenance work is being carried out when the load is more.
The TPCODL site clearly shows the number of power outage in Bhubaneswar and other places since this morning. Check here:
