Heatwave In Odisha: Bhubaneswar Records 33.2 Degree C By 8.30 AM, Slight Fall In Mercury Likely Today

Bhubaneswar: Amid little respite from the sweltering heatwave in Odisha, most parts of the state continued to reel under soaring temperature on Sunday, while the coastal belt experienced grueling humid conditions.

The capital city of Bhubaneswar on Sunday recorded a maximum temperature of 33.2 degree Celsius and overall humidity level of 76 per cent by 8.30 am. The city recorded 30.6 degree Celsius by 5:30 am when the overall humidity level stood at 90 per cent, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD).

By 8:30 am, Jharsuguda recorded the highest maximum temperature of 37.4 degrees, followed by 36.4 in Sambalpur.

Meanwhile, the MeT Centre has forecast that the maximum temperature in Bhubaneswar is likely to be a little low due to wind which is currently prevailing at 18-20 kmph today.

The MeT Centre has already stated that there will be no major change in the overall scenario and the heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in the state till June 20. Odisha is currently experiencing unbearable heat wave conditions, which has thrown life out of gear across the state.

Official sources said that information has been received so far in respect of 20 cases regarding alleged death due to heatwaves. One death case has been confirmed due to sun stroke so far from Balasore district. The other cases are being inquired by the Collectors. Ex-gratia assistance of Rs.50,000/- will be paid to the bereaved families in case of death due to heatwaves, the sources added.
