Heatwave In Odisha: Day Temp To Rise Further By 3°C, Rain Relief Likely From April 16

Bhubaneswar: Amid the sweltering heatwave conditions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday forecast a further rise in day temperature by 3°C at many places in interior Odisha during the next 2 days and slight fall thereafter.

The day temperature is likely to be 40°C or more and remain 3-5 °C above normal at a few places in Odisha during the next 3 days. The yellow warning for heatwave continues till 8.30 am on April 16.

APRIL 13

Heatwave condition very likely to prevail at one or two places in Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Balasore.

APRIL 14

Heatwave condition very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh, Angul, and Balasore.

APRIL 15

Heatwave condition very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Deogarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Angul, Sonepur, and Boudh

Notably, the mercury had soared past 37 degree Celsius by 11.30 this morning with Jharsuguda being the hottest at 39.2 degree Celsius followed by Balasore (39), Chandbali (39), Bhubaneswar (38.6), Sambalpur (38.2), Keonjhar (37.6) and Hirakud (37.4).

Jharsuguda along with Rajgarh in Madhya Pradesh at 43 degree Celsius was the hottest in the country the previous day. These two places were also the hottest across Asia, according to Ogimet, weather information service provider.

The temperature in Jharsuguda was 3 degree above normal. At least 17 places in the state had recorded above 40ºC. Check here:

The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 39.8 degree Celsius. The day temperature in these cities will hover around 40ºC for 2 days.

The IMD has also predicted rain in Odisha for two days from April 16.

Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khurda, Cuttack, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Balasore. Coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Koraput and Malkangiri will experience rain in the subsequent 24 hours.
