Heatwave In Odisha For 4 Days Amid Thunderstorms; Temp To Rise By 2-4°C As IMD Issues Yellow Alert

Bhubaneswar: Even as southwest monsoon arrived in Odisha on Saturday, heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in several parts of the state for the next four days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

In its midday bulletin, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar said light to moderate rain/thundershower may occur at a few places over Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur and at one or two places over north coastal Odisha, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Rayagada, Sundargarh, Dhenkanal, Angul, and Kalahandi districts during the next 24 hours.

The weather agency also sounded yellow warning for thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface windspeed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places over Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Malkangiri, Koraput, and Nabarangpur districts.

Hot and humid weather condition may prevail at one or two aces over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati during the period.

There will be gradual rise in maximum temperature (day temperature) by 2 to 4 degree Celsius during next three days and no large change thereafter at many places of Odisha.

June 11

Yellow Warning: Heatwave condition may prevail at one or two places over the districts of Bargarh, Balangir, Nuapada, Sonepur, and Boudh.

Thunderstorm with lightning likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Dhenkanal, Khurda, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur.

Hot & humid weather condition likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati.

June 12

Yellow Warning: Heat wave condition likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Bargarh, Balangir, Nuapada, Sonepur, Boudh, Sambalpur, and Jharsuguda.

Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface windspeed reaching 30-40 kmph likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, and Koraput.

Hot and humid weather condition may prevail at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
