On Wednesday, thunderstorm along with rain brought some respite from scorching heat in coastal districts of Odisha, even as 15 towns in the state recorded temperature of 43°C or above. Talcher was the hottest at 45°C, followed by Boudh and Titilagarh at 44.5°C each, Nuapada (44.4°C), Angul and Jharsuguda at 44.3°C each and Balangir (44°C).
A day after recording the season’s highest temperature of 45.4°C, the mercury dipped to 41.3°C in Bhubaneswar as thunderstorm, rain, lightning and hail lashed the city in the afternoon. Similar weather conditions were seen in Cuttack, which recorded 41.5 degree Celsius.
“The temperatures may fall by 1 to 2 °C due to rainfall activities. However, severe heatwave conditions would continue in the state for the next few days,” Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre director Manorama Mohanty told the PTI.
