Bhubaneswar: People of Odisha can expect some respite from the sweltering heat from Wednesday as per the forecast by the local Met office here.
According to Dr Sarat Chandra Sahu, Director, India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bhubaneswar, there will be a marginal fall in the temperature from Wednesday till May 12. It will further decrease in most parts of the state from May 14. In western Odisha, the temperature will hover around 40 degree Celsius and below during this period, he added.
Sahu further said there is a possibility of sporadic rainfall at one or two places in western Odisha on Wednesday, while Nor’wester (kalabaisakhi) will lash coastal areas and the adjoining districts like Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Kandhamal and Koraput districts the following day.
Most areas in the western Odisha sizzled under intense heatwave conditions on Tuesday as mercury soared to 40 degrees Celsius and above at 11 places with Titlagarh recording the highest temperature of 44.8 degrees Celsius.
Besides, temperature had crossed over 40 degree Celsius in Sonepur (44), Jharsuguda (43.8), Balangir (43.5), Sambalpur (43), Bhawanipatna (42.2), Hirakud (42.1), Sundargarh (42), Talcher (41.6), Angul (41.3) and Malkangiri (41.1).
