Bhubaneswar: Odisha continued to be in grip of heatwave as 18 places registered maximum temperature of 40 degree Celsius or more on Tuesday.
According to evening bulletin of the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD), Boudh recorded highest temperature of 42.5 degree Celsius in the state. It was followed by Jharsuguda with 42.4, Balangir 41.7, Talcher 41.6, Rourkela 41.4, Angul and Sundargarh 41.1 and Kendrapada 41 degree Celsius.
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack registered maximum temperature of 38.7 and 40 degree Celsius respectively.
The IMD has forecast that maximum temperature is very likely to be 40 degree Celsius or more at a few places in Odisha during next 3-4 days. Hot and discomfort weather is likely at a few places during the period.
Meanwhile, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has issued an advisory in view of the heatwave condition in the state. “As per the forecast given by meteorological centre, Bhubaneswar, the day temperature tomorrow is likely to be 40° C to 42° C in a few districts. People are advised to avoid outdoor activities during peak hours unless it is absolutely necessary,” the SRC said.
The Met office has issued a yellow warning and forecast that light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at a one or two places in coastal Odisha, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj by 8 am on Wednesday.
