Bhubaneswar: Heavy rainfall is likely to continue at one or two places in Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, and Gajapati districts in Odisha till Thursday morning, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Wednesday.
Yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning has also been issued for one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri districts.
A western disturbance over Jharkhand with trough aloft running from northeast Uttar Pradesh to east Vidarbha, and a trough from Jharkhand to south Assam running from northeast Madhya Pradesh to south Assam with embedded cyclonic circulation over east Bangladesh has created favourable meteorological condition for moderate thunderstorm activity with lightning and fairly widespread with isolated heavy rainfall activity over the few coastal districts of Odisha during next 24 hours, according to the midday bulletin.
The Met Office has advised people to keep watch on the weather and take shelter during the thunderstorms to protect themselves from lightning and follow traffic advisories in urban areas.
While light rain or thundershower may continue at one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, and Dhenkanal on Thursday and dry weather will prevail across the state thereafter.
The weather agency has also predicted a sharp rise in the day temperature by 8-10 degree Celsius at most places in Odisha after 24 hours. The night temperature may also soar by 3-5 degree Celsius during the next 4-5 days.
