Bhubaneswar: The Southwest Monsoon on Friday covered some more parts of Odisha, including state capital Bhubaneswar, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD).
It added that conditions are favourable for further advance of monsoon into some more parts of Odisha during the next 3-4 days. The agency’s graph shows that monsoon has covered most parts of Odisha, except some regions in Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Balasore and Mayurbhanj.
“Southwest Monsoon has covered 24 districts – Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Nayagarh, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Balangir, Boudh, Sonepur, Bargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Deogarh, more parts of Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Balasore and some parts of Sundargarh and Mayurbhanj,” the MeT office said.
The weather agency further said that Odisha is likely to experience isolated heavy (64.5-115.5 mm) to very heavy rainfall (115.5-204.4 mm) on June 21 and 22. Fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) may also occur in the state during the next 5 days.

Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface windspeed reaching 30-40 kmph is likely at one or two places in Kalahandi, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur at one or two places in Rayagada, and Kandhamal and heavy rainfall in Gajapati, Khurda, Kalahandi, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Nayagarh, and Ganjam.
JUNE 22
Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface windspeed reaching 30-40 kmph may continue in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh and Jharsuguda.
Heavy Rainfall is also likely at one or two places in Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts.
JUNE 23
Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface windspeed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar.
Light to moderate rain is expected to continue at many places in the state thereafter. The day temperature is also likely to fall by 2-4 degree celsius during the next 2 days, it added.
