Berhampur: With heavy rain for the last two days disrupting road communication at several places in Ganjam district, the district administration on Friday announced closure of all schools and anganwadi centres in the district.
However, the school teachers and anganwadi workers have been asked to remain present at their respective institutions.
if required, people in the affected areas will be shifted to the schools and the anganwadi centres, the administration said.
According to reports, road communication between Aska and Digapahandi was disrupted after a bridge over the Pochaka river was swept away near Buddheswari temple in Sanakhemundi block.
Besides, flood threat loomed large in Kabisuryanagar block with Dhanei river in spate. Road communication between Dharapur and Shraddhapur was disrupted due to overflowing of floodwater at several places on the National Highway. Besides, the Dengadi village was cut off from the rest of the world as the rainwater flooded the village road.
The heavy rainfall has also submerged thousands of hectares of paddy fields in Aska, Dharakot, Kabisuryanagar and Sheragada blocks in the district.
