Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to experience heavy rainfall in the next four days with a fresh low pressure area taking shape over northwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal.

The state government on Saturday alerted the to-be affected districts to be prepared to meet the possible flood-like situation and evacuate people to safer places if the need arises.

Odisha had witnessed flash floods and severe waterlogging due to incessant rain in August due to four low pressure areas formed over the Bay.

Director, Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, H R Biswas said that the low pressure is likely to become more well marked in the next 24 hours.

Under its influence, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj, Puri and Nayagarh districts till Monday, he added.

Here’s day-wise weather forecast:

September 2 and 3:

Heavy to very heavy rainfall to lash Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Gajapati and Rayagada

Heavy rain likely in Kandhamal, Puri, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Khordha, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, Angul, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Sambalpur and Mayurbhanj districts.

September 3 and 4:

Heavy to very heavy rainfall to pound parts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur and Keonjhar districts.

Heavy rain likely in Nabarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nuapada, Bolangir, Sonepur, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh and Boudh districts during this period.

September 4 and 5

Heavy rainfall forecast for Nuapada, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur and Cuttack districts.

As the sea condition will be rough to very rough, fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea along and off south Odisha coast and west central adjoining north Bay of Bengal on September 2 and 3.
